Coalville Community Fun Run 2024

Now in its second year we had even more entrants and raised even more money than last year.

The ambitious idea of one of our members, Coalville Community Fun Run was started as a way to get the local community together while having fun and getting some exercise in the open air.

Feel free to like and add comments. You can jump to the event pics here or keep reading for all the details of the day.

This year we chose to raise money for three local charities and are please to announce that we are able to donate £420 to each. This is thanks to everybody who took part, helped, supported and sponsored the event - thank you all.

Bright Hope in North West Leicestershire offers a range of therapeutic and social care services in North West Leicestershire. The charity supports individuals who have a life limiting condition or one that leads to a significant reduction in quality of life, as well as offering support to their partner, carer or family.

Love4Life provide fantastic support to empower young people aged 11-18 to build confidence and make positive choices in their health, relationships and education. Set up in 2008, Love4Life has grown to work across multiple areas of deprivation in Leicestershire, Leicester and Derby, supporting hundreds of young people aged 11-18 years every year.

Lara thanked the club and explained that the money donated will be used to support the work Love4Life do in Coalville, including the activities and support they provide at Coalville CAN.

Wishes4Kids grants wishes to children and youngsters in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill, have experienced life-changing physical or emotional traumas and have suffered major abuse. The Charity grants wishes for those of eighteen years and below. They have already granted thousands of wishes for local children.

The event, held at Snibston Colliery Park, was another tremendous success, with over 85 entrants, many running the 5k course while others took a more gentle jog or walk around either the 5k or the shorter 2k route.

With lots of help from our own volunteers, we were also greatly supported by the Rotary Clubs of Ashby de la Zouch and Ashby de la Zouch Castle, Coalville and Ashby Lions, and many volunteers from our selected charities too.

We were grateful to receive fantastic sponsorship from several local companies including Everyone Active,  Ibstock Brick, Hermitage Dental Practice, MP Personal Training, MQP, NevilleCars2020 and PPLPRS. We were also greatly assisted by the team from Leicestershire Country Parks.

Also supporting the event on the day were Mander Cruikshank Solicitors and Coalville CAN.

The warm up was led by Bridie from Darcy Fitness, and her partner was on hand to offer sports massage as the runners completed the course.

At the finish line, everybody was presented with a medal and a goody bag. Handing out the medals were club members, representatives from our charities, and a special thanks to gold medal winning runner Gemma Steel who was happy to support our event.

Finally, a big thank you to Chris (Rotary Club of Ashby de la Zouch Castle) who was the MC throughout the event, providing a helpful commentary, supporting runners and speaking with representatives from our charities, helpers and participants.

Here's all the pictures we got from the day - take a look to see if you can spot yourself or somebody you know.
